Israel’s Legal Pursuit Comes Under Scrutiny in Report
A report by Israel’s Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, cited in a September 2, 2026 report by Israel-based Ynetnews, provides details of efforts in Türkiye targeting dual nationals who have served in the Israeli military.
The report alleges that former or current IDF personnel who also hold Turkish citizenship are being identified through information obtained from open sources. It states that social media accounts, photographs, family ties, and military history are being compiled, with the information subsequently organized into dossiers for use in legal proceedings.
According to the ministry’s assessment, the issue is no longer limited to protests and political statements. Investigations into individual military responsibility and legal applications have become a significant part of the activities carried out in Türkiye.
From a Social Media Photo to a Legal Case File
The report also provides details of the methods allegedly used by the Özgürlük Nöbeti Platform.
According to the report, investigations begin with searches of social media accounts and open-source information. Once information suggesting that an individual is an IDF member is identified, their family and social circles are reportedly investigated, while details such as uniforms, insignia, military units, and areas of service visible in photographs are examined.
The information gathered can then be made public and, through legal professionals, submitted to judicial authorities in Türkiye, the report states.
The report also cites an incident from February 2026. It alleges that an investigation was launched into a former female soldier who holds both Turkish and Israeli citizenship based on a social media post shared by her mother on the day she joined the military. According to the documents, information was also gathered about the individual’s military connections and relatives serving in the IDF, followed by a legal application.
WOLAS and the Özgürlük Nöbeti Platform at the Center of the Network
The Israeli report particularly highlights two organizations at the center of these activities: World Lawyers Association (WOLAS) and the Özgürlük Nöbeti Platform.
According to the report, the two groups operate in complementary areas. It alleges that the Özgürlük Nöbeti Platform conducts open-source intelligence gathering and public advocacy, while WOLAS plays a role in bringing the information collected into legal proceedings.
The documents also allege that efforts have been made to establish a name-based database of IDF personnel who hold Turkish citizenship and to use the collected information in legal case files.
The Process Reached the Turkish Parliament
According to the Israeli report, activities concerning IDF personnel holding Turkish citizenship were also brought before the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye in February 2026.
The report further states that contacts were established with the legal department of HÜDA PAR in February and March, and that legal applications were filed on March 7 concerning dual nationals who had served in the Israeli military.
Israeli authorities claim that these investigative activities in Türkiye intensified further after the IDF shared certain information concerning soldiers holding foreign citizenship in February 2026.
Mavi Marmara Association Included in Israel’s Network Map
One of the notable sections of the report is a network map illustrating alleged connections between various organizations.
In this map, Israeli authorities include organizations linked to the Mavi Marmara Association alongside WOLAS, the Özgürlük Nöbeti Platform, İHH, Al-Haq, Al-Mezan, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, and other groups.
The Israeli report alleges that these organizations are connected through joint campaigns, legal initiatives, international efforts, and various solidarity activities.
The inclusion of the Mavi Marmara Association in this map once again demonstrates that the struggle for Gaza, which began with the 2010 flotilla, has not remained limited to an initiative carried out at sea. Efforts to lift the blockade, defend the rights of Palestinians, and ensure accountability before the law have continued across different fields.
Israel Is Also Monitoring Efforts for Individual Accountability
The ministry’s report assesses that activities carried out in Türkiye have gone beyond general political campaigns against Israel. The investigation of the names, families, military service, and connections of individuals who have served in the IDF, and the transfer of this information into legal proceedings, is among the key issues emphasized in the report.
Israeli authorities also allege that some of the organizations named in the report have links to groups designated on sanctions or terrorism lists. These assessments are presented as allegations made by the Israeli authorities in their own report.
