Ethical Values

The Mavi Marmara Association carries out its activities with the awareness that protecting the safety of life, belief, mind, property, and lineage of humans, whom it regards as the most superior among creatures, is the most natural and indispensable right. It challenges anyone, anywhere, who violates these rights. No matter who they are or how it is done, the Association stands by the victim in case of any violation of these rights.

MM adheres to universal fundamental humanitarian aid principles and considers the purpose of humanitarian aid to protect life and health and ensure people’s dignity. MM provides humanitarian aid based on need, without discrimination based on nationality, race, gender, religious belief, class, or political opinion, except for prioritizing emergency crises. MM conducts its activities independently of any political, economic, military, or other objectives that an actor in the regions where it operates might have. MM does not take sides in conflicts as a humanitarian aid actor and does not engage in political, racial, religious, or ideological debates.

The Mavi Marmara Association provides relevant and appropriate aid to communities and individuals affected by crises. It conducts humanitarian aid interventions in a timely and effective manner, aiming to strengthen local capacity in its operations to prevent negative impacts. The humanitarian aid intervention is based on communication, feedback, and participation. It is open to complaints and responds to them. Our humanitarian aid intervention is well-coordinated and complementary. Continuous learning and development of humanitarian aid actors are targeted. Personnel are supported to carry out their operations effectively. Programs are organized to enhance knowledge and capacity development of personnel, and fair and equal treatment is ensured. Resources are used responsibly and appropriately for the targeted objectives.

The Mavi Marmara Association does not serve any stakeholder in the region under conditions that conflict with its professional obligations or are considered to undermine the integrity of its work in any way. In case of a "conflict" or the emergence of a "potential conflict of interest," it withdraws from the task as required by the conditions. This way, the source of the conflict is eliminated by MM, or an agreement is reached with the relevant parties regarding the fulfilment or continuation of the contract.

The Mavi Marmara Association discloses any specific relationship, special condition, or business relationship that may affect or weaken its impartiality in a particular task or when it is deemed by the client or other persons to affect its impartiality at the earliest opportunity.

The Mavi Marmara Association does not accept voluntary discounts, accommodations, commissions, or gifts as incentives in favor of any person or organization and does not allow stakeholders or personnel to obtain advantages through financial incentives.

The Mavi Marmara Association does not use any confidential information arising during the performance of a task about a stakeholder's affairs for personal gain or the benefit of other persons outside the stakeholder organization.

The Mavi Marmara Association respects the professional obligations and qualifications of all other individuals it works with. MM does not misrepresent or make any commitments about the qualifications of another consultant when referring a stakeholder to another consultant. It communicates potential conflicts of interest and related consequences to a stakeholder known to be served by another consultant before starting work. When a stakeholder requests the Mavi Marmara Association to handle a different task, it acts with necessary objectivity, integrity, and sensitivity in all technical and consulting outcomes conveyed.
