As Mavi Marmara Association, with the generous support of our donors, we have completed the comprehensive restoration of the historic Al-Quds Mosque in Syria's Yarmouk Refugee Camp and reopened it for worship. For Palestinian refugees, the reopening of the mosque represents a renewed sense of hope. Years after its closure, the first Friday prayer was held with the participation of a large congregation, as the mosque once again welcomed its community.

Built in 1985, Al-Quds Mosque has long been more than just a place of worship for Palestinian refugees. It has served as a gathering place, a center of solidarity, and a symbol of resilience. After suffering extensive damage during the war, the mosque has been restored through our rehabilitation efforts and returned to the service of the local community.

The Reopening of the Mosque Revitalizes the Area

The reopening of Al-Quds Mosque marks the beginning of a new chapter for Yarmouk Refugee Camp. As the mosque resumes its role at the heart of community life, families who were forced to leave the area are gradually returning, while local shop owners are reopening their businesses. In this way, the mosque is contributing not only to the revival of religious life but also to the restoration of the area's social and economic vitality.

"Devastated by the Syrian Regime in a Way Similar to Gaza"

Speaking at the reopening ceremony, AK Party Istanbul Provincial Chairman Osman Nuri Kabaktepe drew attention to the destruction in Yarmouk Camp and said:

"This area was devastated by the Syrian regime over the past decade in a way similar to how Israel has devastated Gaza. Al-Quds Mosque was also destroyed by the oppressive regime. Today, thanks to the support of our civil society organizations and generous donors, it has been rebuilt. We are grateful to perform the first Friday prayer here together once again."

We Continue to Stand with the People of Yarmouk

As Mavi Marmara Association, our efforts do not end with the reopening of Al-Quds Mosque. We continue to support approximately 100 orphaned children through regular educational and basic needs assistance, provide ongoing food aid to families in need, and carry out home renovation projects to help families regain safe living conditions.
