Intervention Against the Global Sumud Flotilla in International Waters: 21 Vessels Seized

The Global Sumud Flotilla, heading toward Gaza, was intercepted by the Israeli navy in international waters off the coast of Greece. As a result of the operation, 21 vessels belonging to the flotilla were seized and a large number of civilian activists were detained.

The intervention reportedly took place while the vessels were sailing off the coast of Crete. According to statements from activists and organizers on board, Israeli warships surrounded the aid flotilla and issued warnings ordering them to turn back.

During the incident, intense signal jamming was reportedly carried out against the vessels, aiming to cut off communication between the activists and the outside world. At critical moments, contact with several boats was completely lost, leaving civilian participants vulnerable.

The flotilla consisted of more than 50 vessels carrying hundreds of civilian participants from 39 different countries. Israeli officials stated that approximately 175 activists on more than 20 vessels were detained, while independent sources reported that 21 boats were seized.

It was also confirmed that Turkish citizens were among those on board; however, no clear information has yet been released regarding their health and safety following the intervention. Meanwhile, some vessels reportedly managed to maneuver into Greek territorial waters and reach safer areas.

The incident has drawn strong reactions from the international community, with human rights groups emphasizing that the intervention violated international law. Organizers of the flotilla strongly condemned the targeting of civilians and called on the international community to take action.
