The Global Sumud Flotilla, prepared to break the blockade on Gaza and establish a humanitarian aid corridor, has departed from Italy. Leaving Porto Xiphonio Port in Augusta, Sicily on April 26, the flotilla continues its journey toward Gaza.

Comprising approximately 50 to 60 vessels, the flotilla is described as the largest civilian maritime mobilization ever organized. According to international reports, hundreds of activists, healthcare workers, and civil society representatives from various countries have joined the flotilla and converged in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The flotilla has expanded through the unification of vessels departing from Italy and Spain, forming a coordinated mission. In recent days, extensive preparations in Augusta Port included the loading of essential humanitarian supplies, alongside solidarity events attended by international participants.

The main objectives of the Global Sumud Flotilla include drawing attention to the blockade on Gaza, establishing a permanent humanitarian corridor, and increasing political and economic pressure within the international community.

Shaped within the framework of the Brussels Declaration, the initiative calls for boycotts, political pressure, and nonviolent civil disobedience targeting governments. It also emphasizes the need to guarantee humanitarian access to Gaza in accordance with international law.

Departing with the belief that “when institutional structures fail, people take action,” the Global Sumud Flotilla continues its voyage toward Gaza as a powerful symbol of global civil solidarity and moral resistance.
