Reactions are growing to the attack in the Mediterranean on the Freedom Flotilla, which set out to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to break the blockade. Members and supporters of the Flotilla Coalition called on the international community at a press statement held in Istanbul.

Speaking at the press conference, Ann Wright, a member of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition Executive Committee and an American former colonel, delivered a message of determination:

“In the coming months, many more ships than these will set out to break the blockade.
We will continue to take to the seas until Gaza and Palestine are free.”

Also speaking at the statement, Beheşti İsmail Songür, President of the Mavi Marmara Association, drew attention to the silence of states:

“In particular, states — our country should have implemented much more serious sanctions against Israel by now.

Either you take action, or make space for us, or protect these ships.

Because we know that the one who acts is better than the one who sits still.”

The press statement concluded with calls for the release of the activists and an end to the blockade of Gaza.
