The Global Sumud Flotilla, which aims to break the blockade on Gaza, is continuing its preparations ahead of the main voyage set to begin on April 12. As the first step of the initiative, around 20 boats set sail on April 4 from Marseille, France. These vessels will proceed as part of the international flotilla and will be directed to designated meeting points for the planned main voyage.
Each boat departing from Marseille carries teams of approximately eight people. Composed of volunteers, activists, and healthcare workers, these teams are transporting medical supplies, food, hygiene products, as well as seeds and irrigation equipment to support agricultural production. The flotilla also includes technical materials to help rebuild fishing boats damaged in Gaza.
In the coming stages, the flotilla is expected to merge with vessels departing from different countries and set sail toward Gaza as part of the main voyage scheduled for April 12. The organization is being coordinated in cooperation with the international civil network Freedom Flotilla Coalition and builds on the experience of similar missions carried out in previous years.
In addition to delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, the Global Sumud Flotilla aims to raise international awareness about the blockade and restrictions imposed on the region. The departure from Marseille marks the first step of this process, with the flotilla set to head toward designated meeting points in the coming days as preparations continue for the main voyage on April 12.
