The Gaza Freedom Flotilla, consisting of the ships Mavi Marmara, Sfendoni, Challenger I, Eleftheri Mesogios, Gazze I, and Defne Y, set out to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, carrying only aid volunteers and humanitarian supplies. On May 31, 2010, it faced an unlawful attack and intervention by Israeli military forces.
